Tessa's Birth Story

At my 38 week check up my doctor informed me that he was going to be going out of town the weekend before my due date and would be gone up till the 19th which was my due date.  He checked me and told me that he would be happy to induce me on the 12th if I wanted to.  If I chose not to I there would be a really good chance that I would not deliver with him.  I thought a lot about it and decided that I really wanted to deliver with him so I went for the induction date.  That morning I woke up and called the hospital and they told me to come in around 7:30.  We got in and I changed and they hooked me up to my IV and she checked me.  I was only at a 1 and was 70% softened.  She messaged my doctor to let him know that I was there and ready.  She waited about 15 minutes and then decided to go ahead and hook me up to my pitocin.  She got me going and then finally heard from my doctor.  He told her to get me going nice and slow, since he was going to be in surgeries pretty much all day.  I was a little surprised by that since I thought that we would be nice and quick and be done maybe by noon or 1:00.  That morning the nurse would come in every once in awhile and I was working through the contractions.  At 11:30 the nurse came and checked me again.  I was now at 4+.  She upped my pitocin and said she try to get a hold of my doctor.  I know my body and I knew if I reached a 6 my water would need to be broken in order for me to not stall.  Alissa came over around 12:30 to take pictures for us.  At 1:30 the nurse checked me again and I was at a 6.  At some point I did decide to get an epidural because the contractions were starting to get more intense and I knew that second they broke my water that I would go fast.  At this point I was starting to get really frustrated and was second guessing my choice to be induced because now I was on doctor's time table.  He was manipulating my delivery for himself and that was getting really annoying.  We still had not heard from him when she checked me around 3:30 and I was still at a 6.  I knew that I was going to be stuck there until he broke my water.  At 4:00 when my nurse came in to just check on things I pretty much demanded her to call my doctor and tell him that I would really like my water broken.  She finally did and found out that he was out of surgery and was on his way over to the hospital.  At 4:35 he broke my water and I was still at a 6.  I told him that he should stay close cause I'll go fast at this point.  He had another surgery that he was heading in for so when I was ready the nurse was to call him.  Around 5:15 I started feeling a lot of pressure and told Kyle that we might want to get the nurse.  She came in and checked me and I had jumped to an 8.  At 5:25 the baby's heart rate dropped a little so she came in again and I told her I was feeling a lot more pressure again and so she checked me again and was at a 9.  At 5:40 the pressure got even more intense and I felt water starting to gush.  I told Kyle that it was time and that he should get the nurse immediately.  She walked in and checked me and I was fully dilated and was ready to push.  She called the Doctor up and he walked in around 5:50 and got me set up and told me that I could push whenever I felt like it.  The first contraction came and I pushed.  I took a small break and then felt the another contraction and pushed again.  He told me to wait and then with one last push I could see her head.  The last contraction I pushed just a little and the rest of her came. She had arrived at 5:57. As frustrated as I had gotten during the day with my doctor and everything that was not going the way I thought would go on I was truly grateful for my doctor.  He's amazing and he listened to me and let me do what I felt like was right for myself during the delivery.  And even more so I was grateful that it was finally over and the she was here!
